It may still be warm outside, but the CROSS Meals on Wheels volunteers are preparing for a blizzard.
The dedicated group gathered at CROSS Nov. 3 to fill “blizzard bags” to distribute to individuals participating in the Meals on Wheels program.
Each weekday, CROSS Meals on Wheels to deliver hot, fresh meals to individuals in Maple Grove, Osseo, Rogers, Corcoran, and Dayton. The bag, which includes a variety of shelf-stable foods, provides Meals on Wheels participants with an alternative food option should the weather become too extreme for volunteers to travel.
Blizzard bags will help ensure CROSS Meals on Wheels participants continue to receive access to food –regardless of the Minnesota weather.
During the last fiscal year, volunteers delivered more than 10,000 meals throughout the CROSS service area. With approximately 18 percent of the individuals served at CROSS 65 or older and continually growing, the CROSS Meals on Wheels program launched a sliding scale fee earlier this year, making meals more accessible to individuals in need throughout the community.
