For over a decade, Al and Cindy have quietly and faithfully shown up at CROSS Services to lend a hand—and a whole lot of heart.

Each week, you’ll find Al and Cindy side-by-side in the food shelf, sorting dry goods to ensure families visiting receive the groceries they need.

Their commitment doesn’t stop there. Every November, they don festive red and white to bring holiday cheer as Santa and Mrs. Claus during CROSS Services’ Give to the Max Day celebration. And through their church, Lord of Life, Cindy leads a team that creates hundreds of handmade fleece blankets—offering comfort and warmth to local families in December.

So, what inspires their service?

“Our faith is what inspires us to volunteer,” they shared. “As Christians, we are sent to serve. CROSS Services is a great opportunity to help those in need and serve the community.”

A Natural Fit for Service

With strong connections to CROSS Services through their church and community, volunteering here felt like a natural next step. Over the years, they’ve seen the impact of CROSS Services’ evolving programs, growing capacity, and compassionate team.

This July: You Can Open Your Heart, Too

Al and Cindy remind us that service comes in many forms—sorting food, sewing blankets, or simply showing up with a willing spirit. Their dedication helps CROSS Services ensure that no child or family faces hunger alone.

This summer, the need is even greater. Food shelf visits have surged 29% in the last year, and every day, 84 families rely on CROSS Services for help.

Volunteers are vital in making sure every person who walks in the door not only receives an opportunity to shop for groceries, speak to a family advocate, and explore our additional services, but is also lifted up and given hope.
