Two sixth grade confirmation classes at Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers donated their time and energy Wednesday, April 22 to help local families visiting CROSS.
Each month, small group confirmation classes at Word of Peace participate in a fellowship or a servant event. In April, two groups decided to give back at CROSS in different ways.
Connecting faith to daily life is an important component to Word of Peace Lutheran Church’s confirmation program. This is why each month small groups of sixth through eighth graders spend time doing servant projects in the community, such as stocking shelves for CROSS, packing food at Feed My Starving Children, or making blankets for people who are hospitalized.
At CROSS, one confirmation group volunteered to sort clothing for the CROSS Clothing Program. The clothing was recently donated by Just Between Friends-Maple Grove. The other Word of Peace group decided to shop for food and donated 80 pounds to the CROSS Food Shelf. Their donation will assist in feeding a family of three for approximately two weeks.
“We want kids to understand that following Jesus means serving God’s world. We serve God’s world by caring for God’s people and planet,” Word of Peace Lutheran Church Confirmation Coordinator Carrie Fischer said.
When ninth graders are confirmed, they express that one of the highlights of their confirmation experience was the servant events, according to Fischer.
