CROSS Services is proud to announce that it has received a $500 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in the 13th Annual March for Meals campaign. This year’s grants were made possible through the generosity of Subaru of America, Inc. and its seventh annual “Share the Love” event. During the event, Subaru donated $250 to the owner’s choice of participating charities for every new vehicle purchased or leased.
“We are so thankful to Meals on Wheels Association of America and Subaru for your generosity in helping us support the seniors in our community who rely on us every day for food and daily visit,” CROSS Meals on Wheels Coordinator Stephanie Lehman said.
CROSS is a non-profit organization serving families and individuals living in Rogers, Maple Grove, Osseo, Champlin (West), Corcoran, and Dayton.
In total, $370,250 is being granted to 258 local Meals on Wheels programs and two Meals on Wheels America-affiliated State Associations based on their March for Meals efforts.
The CROSS Meals on Wheels program provides home delivery service of fresh nutritious meals to seniors, individuals with disabilities, and homebound individuals. Meals on Wheels are delivered by volunteers five days a week. Last year, 10,208 meals were delivered in the communities of Maple Grove, Osseo, Rogers, Corcoran, and Dayton.
“The funding will help us continue to grow and support the seniors in our community and build our new sliding scale program,” Lehman said. On average, meals cost approximately $5.50 a piece, some of which are subsidized through different programs. With the new sliding fee program through CROSS Meals on Wheels, the home delivered meal program is now open to more community members, the meal price determined on eligibility to pay and need.
“The March for Meals grant program is our way of recognizing local programs for bolstering the dynamic and effective partnership between Meals on Wheels and the businesses, organizations, governments and volunteers who provide critical support within their communities,” said Meals on Wheels America President and CEO Ellie Hollander. “In addition to mobilizing nearly 400 local Meals on Wheels celebrations across the country, we commemorated the month by releasing the findings of a groundbreaking research study proving that Meals on Wheels delivers so much more than just a meal.”
The annual March for Meals campaign is an effort led by Meals on Wheels America to present opportunities for volunteers, businesses and governments to support seniors in a variety of ways that make communities stronger, safer and healthier.
